Transmog Restrictions in Legion

This tweet popped up in my feed early this morning. I was in bed at the time, it was around 3am, and it was one of Twitter’s “Tweets You Missed” things. Being a bit bleary-eyed and lacking my caffeine, I didn’t really have much to say about it, but now I’m awake, I’m home from work, and here’s a blog post about it.

Alternative Chat has posted something already about this, and is the only post on the subject I’ve seen thus far. Well, here’s my hot take.

I’m fully supportive of this restriction. If it had been how most people assumed (if you can wear it, you unlock it) then plate-wearers would be the ultimate transmog farmers. They can wear cloth, leather, mail AND plate, after all. Warriors specifically have another distinct advantage in that they can also equip damn near ANY weapon type (the only ones they can’t are wands and off-hand items, I believe), which would have made them the perfect transmog farmers. Any boss drop they get they’d have unlocked, pretty much.

lillofab

With this clarification, it means you can only unlock it if it’s a suitable item for your class. Cursed Vision of Sargeras (a leather item) drops on your Shaman? It won’t unlock for your Rogue/Monk/Druid to use, because Shaman use mail, and Rogues/Monks/Druids use leather. You’d need to actually take your leather-wearers there to get it themselves. It means you have to use a class to get stuff for them!

Interestingly, your starting gear has been changed now too. Previously, Shaman, Hunters, Paladins and Warriors equipped the armour type below their endgame armours (i.e. leather instead of mail, mail instead of plate), then “learned”  how to equip heavier stuff at level 40. In Legion, you now start with your endgame armor type. Level 1 Paladins now have plate items, level 1 Hunters will have mail. They’d need to rejig lower-level quest rewards/dungeon drops though, primarily for the Plate users who wouldn’t GET any plate drops below level 40, because not everybody has/uses heirlooms.

I’d like to see that go 1 step further and restrict a class to that specific armor type. After all, you don’t see level 100 Paladins not using plate, unless they’re doing something really wrong (or RPing I suppose), so why not make it so they can ONLY wear plate?

I’m fully supportive of the notion that if you want cloth transmog, then you go and get it with a cloth-wearer. Want some cool leathers? Then farm it on a class that can use it, not on your Warrior that can equip bloody everything. I’m firmly of the belief that if you want something on a character, you should actually PLAY that character to get it, not play everything ELSE instead.

lilloss

But what do I know, eh? There’s a fair amount of people annoyed at this restriction, and that’s fine. I appear to be in the overwhelming minority here for once, looking at the replies to the above tweet.

One last thing I will say is that there should be more items classed as “cosmetic,” much like the Fel-Proof Goggles from Tanaan Jungle. There’s a LOT of holiday items that are classed as cloth, they should be reclassified as cosmetic so every class can use them.

So, fight me IRL I guess?

Panda Steve’s Current Transmogs

I haven’t done a transmog post in such a long time
To have left it this long truly feels like a crime
Maybe I’ll have cheesecake. The flavour? Key Lime.
But the restaurant is closing, will I get there in time?

Okay okay enough of that. THE TRANSMOGS, IF YOU PLEASE.

Shokei the Warlock

This transmog actually came from an outside source! I wanted to use the Replica Shado-Pan Helmet, saw this site, and thought “that looks BOSS, mate.”

shadomog

It’s not a complete lift; I did use different gloves and a different weapon. It might not fit in terms of colour, but it’s a weapon I think is pretty cool. Flashing lights and moving parts.

  • Head: Replica Shado-Pan Helmet (Shado-Pan Quartermaster)
  • Shoulder: Consortium Mantle (world drop, try Magisters’ Terrace)
  • Chest: Vestments of Thundering Skies (Golden Lotus Quartermaster)
  • Hands: Ceremonial Gloves of Karabor (Hand of the Prophet Quartermaster)
  • Waist: Durable Belt (world drop, try Gnomeregan)
  • Feet: Cindercloth Boots (Tailoring)
  • Weapon: Lever of the Megantholithic Apparatus (Mythic Siegecrafter Blackfuse, Siege of Orgimmar)

Fujikomine the Rogue

fujiko

She’s all about the purple. Even has matching highlights in her hair.

Fujikomine lost her eye in a terrible inscription accident involving a quill, and a mistimed sneeze.

(in truth I appear to have an obsession with eyepatches, and will use them at any given opportunity)

  • Head: Ragefury Eyepatch (Hurley Blackbreath, Blackrock Depths)
  • Shoulders: Shoulderpads of the Forgotten Gate (Heroic Baleroc, Firelands)
  • Chest: Incendic Chestguard (Heroic Rhyolith, Firelands)
  • Hands: Muckdweller Gloves (quest reward)
  • Waist: Nimble Climber’s Belt (Auriaya 10, Ulduar)
  • Legs: Firecat Leggings (Heroic Staghelm, Firelands)
  • Feet: Treads of Sordid Screams (Heroic Ultraxion, Dragon Soul)
  • Weapons: Firethorn Mindslicer (Heroic Firelands, drops from all bosses except Ragnaros)

Lillorigga the Warrior

With the removal of Gladiator Stance in Legion, Lillorigga’s taking her anger out on the world by going back to Fury.

lilmageddon

Pink plate is best plate, you know.

  • Shoulder: Pauldrons of Roaring Flame (Ragnaros, Firelands Normal)
  • Chest: Bloodscale Breastplate (world drop, try Slave Pens/Blood Furnace)
  • Hands: Bloodscale Gauntlets (world drop, try Slave Pens/Blood Furnace)
  • Waist: Bloodscale Belt (world drop, try Slave Pens/Blood Furnace)
  • Legs: Bloodscale Legguards (world drop, try Slave Pens/Blood Furnace)
  • Feet: Bloodscale Sabatons (world drop, try Slave Pens/Blood Furnace)
  • Weapons: Armageddon (Gluth 25, Naxxramas)
Hey Lillorigga, you happy about the Gladiator Stance removal? Take that as a no then.

Disgleirio the Paladin

It’s the Welsh word for “shining,” is Disgleirio. Or something like that. It’s fittingly Paladin-y. They’re all about shining lights at people to make them healthy/die.

Hey that's Lillorigga's weapon STOP THIEF

Hey that’s Lillorigga’s weapon STOP THIEF

It’s not a Draenei pose picture if they’re not using /flex.

  • Head: Fel-Proof Goggles (Tanaan Jungle, Fel-Drenched Satchel in The Fel Forge)
  • Shoulder: Rethban Pauldrons (world drop, Throne of the Tides)
  • Chest: Fel Iron Breastplate (Blacksmithing)
  • Hands: Fel Iron Plate Gloves (Blacksmithing)
  • Waist: Fel Iron Plate Belt (Blacksmithing)
  • Legs: Fel Iron Plate Pants (Blacksmithing)
  • Feet: Fel Iron Plate Boots (Blacksmithing)
  • Weapon: Armageddon (Gluth 25, Naxxramas)

Lunchi the Monk

Yeah, she’s based on Chun Li.

lunchi

Monks don’t really have a lot of emphasis on their weapons (especially mine! She has a polearm equipped but I’m using the Glyph of Jab) but Lunchi’s looks pretty cool.

polearmish

Decorative and little else.

  • Shoulder: Spaulders of the Ring (quest)
  • Chest: Lo’ap’s Tunic of Muck Diving (quest)
  • Hands: Caustic Feelers (quest (A) quest (H))
  • Waist: Stalk-Skin Belt (Heigan 25 or Gluth 25, Naxxramas)
  • Legs: Leggings of Telhamat (quest)
  • Feet: Mud Encrusted Boots (quest)
  • Weapon: Banner Slicer (world drop, try Violet Hold/Drak’Tharon Keep)

Last, but not least:

Lixiu the Hunter

aimandFIRE

Okay so the bow string clips through her pandaboob slightly but she still looks killer.

  • Shoulder: Grunt’s Pauldrons (world drop, Blackfathom Deeps)
  • Chest: Outrunner’s Chestguard (world drop, Blackfathom Deeps)
  • Hands: Outrunner’s Gloves (world drop, Wailing Caverns)
  • Waist: Outrunner’s Cord (world drop, Wailing Caverns)
  • Legs: Outrunner’s Legguards (world drop, Blackfathom Deeps/Wailing Caverns)
  • Feet: Outrunner’s Slippers (world drop, Wailing Caverns)
  • Weapon: Crypt Fiend Slayer (Halls of Reflection Normal, Lich King event)

I’m working on transmogs for my 2nd Monk, my Priest and my Mage at the moment, not that I have many ideas for them just yet. When I do, though, I will probably do another of these posts to show them off!

It’s A Big Day

Warlords of Draenor Release Date Event

So today is a pretty big day for Blizzard. In just 6.5 hours, we will see the Warlords of Draenor cinematic, and finally learn that much-debated release date for the next expansion. Will it be before or after Blizzcon? Will we see any gnomes in the trailer? Will there be outcry?

(the answer to that last question is YES, there is always some outcry about everything)

Find the live stream page here!

New Page on the Blog

In other news, the other day I created a new page on my blog, dedicated to having the warlock changes in Warlords in one place. There’s no numbers changes just yet, but those will be coming soon.

When that build comes in (likely next week or so, after Gamescom and after the dust has settled from the announcement), I will start filling the Number Tuning section in!

Why did I make this page? Well, it struck me that I had been detailing our changes in blog posts that were scattered across the site, making it inconvenient to find things. By having all the information consolidated on one page, you can easily find what you are looking for!

10 Years, 10 Questions

If you haven’t already, go take part in @AlternativeChat‘s 10 Years 10 Questions survey. She’s creating a podcast documentary of our experiences in Azeroth over the last 10 years, and she wants YOU to contribute! You can see my response in the previous blog post, and you can find many more responses, in blog form, video form and podcast form here! It’s awesome to read everyone’s responses, so why not have a go yourself?

Panda Obsession

There’s not much to focus on at the moment. Recent datamining of new builds threw up not a lot of new stuff, and the stuff that WAS thrown up was included in the new page I mentioned above, along with patch note information, so for an up-to-date look at how warlocks are, go there for now!

So instead, let’s have a look at a couple transmog sets I have been working on. First, here’s Lixiu the hunter.

bluearmy

Yes, she and her entire menagerie are blue. I didn’t find many mail sets I like bar this one, and I think it looks pretty good with her blue army!

lixiumog

Did I ever mention my love of pandas?

There’s Lillorigga. I enjoy that pose, and I can’t find the picture on my hard drive, so have it from my Twitter instead. She’s dressed like a medieval knight!

And with that, I bid ye adieu ’til next time!

Impractical Paladin? Of Course Not.

It’s been too long since I’ve done a transmog post! In lieu of any decent news to report, and because I do LOVE my transmog, here’s my paladin, Patrianna.

Patrianna1

When you have an absurdly large shield, you can be pretty confident that it’ll take all the hits meant for you. But what of the woman behind that wall of spikes?

Patrianna3

Ah yes, an armor that promotes flexibility! Covering the important bits you definitely DON’T want stabbing (like shoulders and feet), and leaving the rest free to breathe! Ease of movement! Almost like wearing cloth! Really heavy, metallic cloth.

Patrianna4

Of course, this isn’t really a practical piece to wear in, say, Northrend. You’ll get chills in places you never thought possible. I advise wearing a lovely warm shirt underneath.

Patrianna6

That’s the idea!

So, what’re the items? Well, the weapon is Fang of the Leviathan, and it drops from Leotheras the Blind in Serpentshrine Cavern, that place we all love so much. The shield is obviously the Bulwark of Azzinoth, from Illidan. One of the most iconic shields in the game, no?

They may not match the armor set per se, but I like them because they look cool.

The armor itself is the Tyrant set, which is a recolour of the Jade Plate set (a nice-looking green!). Naturally, it looks VASTLY different on a male than it does a female. I have no idea why. We want plate mankinis! I turned the helm and cloak off, because I nearly always do, but here’s the rest of the pieces:

  • Shoulders: Tyrant’s Epaulets. I got mine from Razorfen Downs. It’s a VERY rare drop.
  • Chest: Tyrant’s Chestpiece. Got this from Zul’Farrak. Again, very rare.
  • Hands: Tyrant’s Gauntlets. Razorfen Downs or Dire Maul are your best bets for this one.
  • Waist: Fel Iron Plate Belt. Crafted! Blacksmithing! The easiest one to attain.
  • Legs: Tyrant’s Legplates. Zul’Farrak is where I got mine, but Dire Maul is a good spot too.
  • Feet: Tyrant’s Greaves. I got bored of farming at this point and bought these on the auction house for about 200 gold. Razorfen Downs and Dire Maul are your points of call for farming yourself, however.

For those curious, here’s the same armor on a male human, courtesy of the Wowhead model viewer:

NotPatrianna

We get those sexy shoulders, I suppose, but on the whole, decidedly less bikini-ish than we’d like. Are there any skimpy armor sets for males out there? I really wouldn’t know, all my characters are female, bar my second panda monk. Why can’t males have the skimpy costumes too?

I fear that’s a whole new argument. So long for now!

Transmog: Death Knight Style!

Here’s Gestherya flying around, and looking over the rivers of Stormwind.

She’s got one of the WotLK crafted sets on, called the Ornate Saronite Battlegear. It’s easily made through blacksmithing, because I haven’t got around to gathering a set for her yet. Truth be told, I don’t know what I want her to look like in the end. Can’t do the Tyrant set, my paladin has that…

She has a better sword now. Greatsword of Pride’s Fall dropped in LFR the other day. This is a good thing. As Unholy, I seem to have leapt from about 60k dps to 130k!
