Seriously, that happening damn near made me tear up. It was a lovely cap to an absolutely amazing birthday, given the circumstances!
TODAY, A LIST
I’ve decided to make a list of my favourite Pokemon from each generation, in the order of personal preference, for reasons of “because I can”:
PANGORO (G6)

He’s a panda. I adore pandas. It’s a no-brainer, really.
Introduced in gen 6, Pangoro is a dark/fighting type that barely ever leaves my teams, provided I can catch one. The only reason I took him out my current Sword team is that I’m giving Sirfetch’d a whirl, and I wanted a bit of type balance.
He’s big, he’s strong, he packs a punch and even got his own signature move, Parting Shot. Beloved Pangoro, you are the very best!
GOLURK (G5)

A massive ghosty golem, with an appearance based on the Jewish legend The Golem of Prague (the crack with the protective repair job), this rocket-powered fighting machine is capable of learning Fly, and is thus the only proper and true way of taking to the sky.

Also not kidding when I say it’s a reference to Jewish folklore!
JIGGLYPUFF (G1)

The addition of a new type, fairy, and the reclassification of some old school pokemon into the new type, has benefitted some pokemon immensely! Gardevoir, Clefable, and lil’ old Jigglypuff!
JIGGLYPUFF, SLAYER OF DRAGONS, FEARED BY ALL. BOW BEFORE HER FURY, LEST YOU BECOME AS DUST, LIKE ALL OTHERS WHO UNWISELY STOOD AGAINST HER

XATU (G2)

The totem-like Xatu! Seer of the past! The present! THE FUTURE! Except Future Sight is a bit of a crap attack but that’s fine, I don’t hold it against you.
My first wild dynamax battle was against a Natu, and honestly if it had a better nature that didn’t lower his SP.ATK I probably would have put him in my team and evolved him ASAP. Since I first saw Xatu in Silver, I knew he’d be a favourite of mine, and even now, 20 years later, here we are!
SIRFETCH’D (G8)

THEY FINALLY DID IT! THEY DID FARFETCH’D JUSTICE! If a Galarian Farfetch’d scores 3 crits in a single battle, he evolves to this beautiful specimen of anatine strength! I’d highly recommend going to the move relearner and getting his amazing super-priority move First Impression, as it has been a terrific way of opening a fight. Nobody expects a bug move from a duck, and if the enemy sends out a psychic-type as their first pokemon, Sirfetch’d will knock it the fuck OUT.
Also the perfect companion gif to that one up there is this:

Because seriously he went right for the jugular there.
BEWEAR (G7)

I never played Sun, Moon, or either of the Ultra versions, but what’s not to love about a cheerful pink bear that can hug you to DEATH?
ZANGOOSE (G3)

Perpetually grumpy mongoose that takes no shit, and I could never even catch one in the version I had! Bloody Sapphire, giving me stupid Seviper.
GARCHOMP (G4)

My favourite champion’s favourite monster! Also the only pseudo-legendary on this list! Also alarmingly (and newly) susceptible to the badass that is Jigglypuff, of course.
Big ol’ landshark, probably one of the best of the pseudo-legendaries (Tyranitar comes close maybe?), and has the worst shiny form, compared to the baseline. I mean, it goes from dark blue to… greyyyyyyy.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE. THERE IS NONE.
